Business Email: Use Your Hosting or Choose Google Workspace?
There are two common ways to get email on your own domain. Many web hosting plans include it. Or you can pay for a dedicated service such as Google Workspace. Which is right depends on how your team works.
We offer both, so we have no reason to push one. Here is how we would choose.
Our main page for this service: Business Email.
Email on your hosting
This is a good fit when:
- You need a few addresses and mostly send and read mail
- You already have hosting, and want to keep the bill simple
- You do not need shared calendars, video meetings or shared files
- You are comfortable using webmail or a mail app
Google Workspace
This is a good fit when:
- Your team shares calendars, files and meetings every day
- You want email that is kept apart from your website, so a website problem never takes email down
- You have more people, and want one place to manage accounts
- Your team prefers the Gmail way of working
Questions that settle it
How many people need an address? Do they work together on documents? Would it hurt if the website and email went down together? If you answered no to the first two and shrugged at the third, hosting email is probably enough.
In both cases the same setup work applies: SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, and phones and laptops set up properly.
Frequently asked questions
Can we start with hosting email and move later?
Yes. Mail and contacts can be moved to Google Workspace when your team grows.
Which one is cheaper?
Hosting email is usually included with a plan you already pay for. Google Workspace is a per-user subscription. We quote both so you can compare.
Does email on hosting go to spam more?
Not by itself. Correct SPF, DKIM and DMARC records matter more than where the mail is kept.
Can you set up either one?
Yes. Tell us how many people need an address and we suggest one.
