Web Application Penetration Testing: What It Covers and How It Works

A web application penetration test is a controlled attempt to break into your site or app through the browser, the way an attacker would. It finds weak spots in how the application is built, which a scanner alone often misses.

We run these tests remotely from Chittorgarh, India, for businesses in India and abroad.

What we look for

Our checklist follows the OWASP Top 10, a widely used list of web application risks. In practice that means looking for:

  • Broken access control, where one user can see or change another user's data
  • Injection, where input tricks the application into running commands or database queries
  • Weak logins, sessions and password reset flows
  • Settings left at their defaults, such as exposed admin pages or debug output
  • Outdated components with known flaws
  • Sensitive data sent or stored without protection

How a test runs

We agree the scope and the timing with you in writing first. Then we test with a mix of automated tools and manual work, because the serious flaws usually need a person to spot them. If we have test accounts for each user role, we can check the logged-in areas too.

When the testing is done you get the report. After you fix the findings, we test again.

What you receive

A risk summary a business owner can follow, and a technical list for your developers with the steps to reproduce each finding and advice on the fix. The retest result is added once the fixes are in.

What a test cannot prove

A test shows what we could and could not get into on the day, with the tools and time we had. It does not prove that nothing can be found. Applications change, so security is not a one-off job.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a test take?

It depends on the size of the application and the number of user roles. We give an estimate once we have scoped it.

Do you need our source code?

No. Most tests work from the outside. Test accounts for each user role let us check the logged-in areas properly, which finds more.

Will testing break our live site?

We agree the scope and the timing before we start, and where possible we test a staging copy. You know what will be tested and when.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the size of the application and the depth of the test. We quote in writing after a short call about what you run.
